Recap: An Unforgettable Summer Fun at Our First-ever Kids Myopia Camp!
We had an absolute blast at our Myopia Summer Camp last weekend! Picture this: a lively camping scene complete with a camp backdrop, a cozy “campfire,” and toys to keep the kids entertained. It was all about raising awareness and having fun!
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a growing concern for many children today. With the increase in screen time and near-work activities, it's more important than ever to stay informed about how to manage and control myopia.
Expert Talks on Myopia Management
Our amazing speakers shared valuable insights on myopia management and Ortho-k lenses.
Our first speaker was Zachary Tan (our optometrist from Raylite Optical!) who shared on an overview of myopia, the importance of early detection & intervention, and various strategies to manage and slow its progression.
Our next speaker was Low Jun Hao, an optometrist from Menicon Singapore, who shared on Ortho-K or orthokeratology lenses. Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea, providing clear vision during the day without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
Their insightful and informative talks left parents with a wealth of knowledge about myopia control spectacle lenses such as Essilor Stellest, as well as Ortho-K.
Fun for the Kids
We also had a variety of engaging and educational activities for the kids:
- Eye Anatomy Lessons: Kids got hands-on learning about different parts of the eye.
- Myopia Education: We discussed what myopia is, shared eye-opening statistics, and emphasized the importance of eye health. Kids learned about how myopia affects vision and what can be done to prevent it.
- Healthy Eating: Highlighting the types of food that are great for your eyes.
- Outdoor Play: Encouraging fun and movement away from screens, we had activities that got the kids moving and enjoying the outdoors, reinforcing the importance of taking breaks from digital devices.
Vision Screening and Tests
We offered free vision screenings and color vision tests, ensuring kids had the opportunity to check their eye health. We also introduced the concept of axial length and its significance in understanding and managing myopia, providing a comprehensive approach to eye care.
Informative Sessions for Parents
Parents joined informative sessions to dive deep into the world of myopia management. These sessions covered the benefits and effectiveness of various lenses, equipping parents with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their children's eye health. The discussions also included practical tips on how to incorporate healthy eye habits into daily routines.
