Official Launch: Nikon Z Series Progressive Lenses and SeeCoat Next Reveal

Our Raylite team was honoured to be invited to the official launch of Nikon’s latest lens innovations—the Z Series Progressive Lenses and SeeCoat Next Reveal—held at EssilorLuxottica Singapore. It was an insightful afternoon filled with exciting breakthroughs in contrast perception and lens design, and we’re excited to share what we’ve learned with our community.
Nikon: A Century of Precision and Vision
With over 100 years of optical expertise, Nikon continues to be a global pioneer across a diverse range of imaging instruments—from microscopes to telescopes and world-class cameras. This legacy of high-performance optics flows directly into Nikon Lenswear, delivering lenses that are thin, light, sharp, and precise—perfect for wearers who demand more from their vision.
One quote from the event resonated deeply with us:
“For contrast is to sight what flavour is to taste.”
This beautifully encapsulates Nikon’s philosophy behind the new Z Series: enhancing contrast is essential to effortless, high-quality vision.
Nikon Z Series Progressive Lenses: Experience the Extraordinary
With the launch of the Z Series, Nikon ushers in a new era of progressive lenses that focus on contrast performance like never before.
While traditional progressive lenses mainly aim to reduce lens aberrations, the Z Series introduces a revolutionary contrast-driven design powered by Z-Contrast Technology. By precisely analyzing how contrast is transmitted through different zones of the lens, particularly the progression zone, Nikon identified areas of improvement—especially in near vision tasks.
The result? A lens that redefines how clearly and comfortably you see fine details.
Why Contrast Matters More Than You Think
In real life, contrast is impacted by many optical factors:
- Lens aberrations (especially adjacent to the progression corridor)
- Reflections, scatter, smudges, water and dust
- Sunglass tints and absorption
- Pupil size and gaze direction
When contrast is poor, your eyes work harder to see fine details—especially in dim light or close-up tasks.
Nikon’s imaging division applied Modular Transfer Function (MTF) methodology to lens design—a technique used in high-end imaging to evaluate how well an optical system retains contrast. They then built a tool called the Contrast Transmission Analyser to holistically simulate how wearers perceive contrast in real-life situations.
The Power of Z-Contrast Technology
Thanks to Z-Contrast Technology, the Z Series now enables:
- Greater Precision of Contrast
Optimized contrast transmission for both dim and normal lighting conditions—making it easier to spot fine details with less strain.
- Clearer Vision with Less Effort
Enhanced clarity in the progression zone allows for a broader focal range for near tasks, reducing the need to adjust posture constantly.
- Freedom of Vision
Natural and unhindered vision transitions across distances, with fewer head tilts and more visual freedom.
And for those seeking ultimate personalization, the Ultimate Z option takes it further by factoring in an individual’s contrast perception for next-level visual tailoring.
SeeCoat Next Reveal: Smarter Protection, Clearer Contrast
Alongside the Z Series, Nikon also unveiled SeeCoat Next Reveal—a high-performance lens coating built for all-day clarity and contrast.
At its core is Light Purification Technology, which embeds smart molecules directly into the lens material. These molecules intelligently filter harmful UV and blue light from both natural and digital sources—before they even enter your eyes.
But the innovation doesn’t stop there.
Contrast Boost Technology
SeeCoat Next Reveal selectively filters light in the yellow-green wavelength (530–570nm), reducing glare and enhancing contrast. This is especially beneficial in dim environments or nighttime driving.
Key benefits include:
- See better with sharper contrast – Reduced light scatter means greater definition of details
- Read with comfort – Easier reading of small text, even in low-light conditions
- Enjoy vivid colours – Optimized contrast enhances colour perception without dulling hues
- All-day light protection – Filters up to 35%* blue light with minimal yellow tint and no blue reflection
- More comfortable vision at night – Less glare from streetlights and headlights
Looking Ahead: Elevating Vision with Expertise
Our team left the event inspired and energised by Nikon’s commitment to innovation. As lens specialists, we’re proud to bring this new technology to our clients and help them experience vision with greater contrast, clarity, and comfort.
